Thousands of football loving fans graced the stadium to catch glimpses of Volta Rangers setting up a division one campaign with a convincing win against Akatsi All Stars.
The Ho Sports Stadium became the center of attraction as Volta Rangers superiority was put to test against a side whose experience in the division one league cannot be taken for granted.
In what was the match day one of the national division one league, Rangers who had scores to settle with the Miantor Miatoe boys ensured victory was theirs.
Despite the rains which made the tuff slippery, both teams were able to display some good football to the admiration of the fans. It was Volta Rangers who made the most attacks especially at first half, but Akatsi All Stars played well to ward off any goal attempts from the home team to end the first half barren. The visitors solid defense was a delight as they were kept busy by Rangers all through the game
Akatsi All Stars could not hold the forth after recess as Volta Rangers kept pressing which led to the first goal through the spot kick. A well taken penalty by skipper Hafiz Rahman sent the Kodjobi lads ahead in the game
An already charged atmosphere flamed up after Ackah John's low drive to unmarked Justice Akugre netting in the second to put Rangers in a comfortable lead.
All Stars attempts to equalize the two goals could not materialized but had a consolation goal in the dying embers of the game. A 90 plus 3' added time was all it took to end the game at 2-1 in favour of Volta Rangers who recorded a win in their debut division one game.
Volta Rangers travels to Tema to face Na God FC in a match week two fixture.
