Team Ho bags top awards in the just ended Volta Tennis Championship

Emmanuel Anang won the Seniors open in the just ended Volta Regional Table Tennis Championship in Denu

The Volta Table Tennis Championship which took place in Denu saw team Volta excelling in the just ended tourney.

In all categories, U12, U15, U19 and Seniors categories saw Ho teams top the medal table of the championship. 

In the U12 male playoff, Aikens Boadi wins bronze medal after placing third and Benedicta Amegboe placing second in the female U12 and U15 games also won silver medal. The U15 boys final saw James Adzadza placing second with a silver medal as the U19 side, Andrew Sikpa emerged winner to take home a gold medal while Philip Kwashie took the fourth position.

Two time champion, Emmanuel Anang had no difficulty winning the ultimate the second time in the seniors category as he beat his contender from Hohoe a 3 straight round to lift the trophy and a gold medal.

Anang popularly called Milo is the defending champion in the Volta Regional Table Tennis Championship held annually in Denu.

Speaking with Anang after winning the tournament, he called for hands on board. Requesting for the provision for an indoor facility in Ho to enable the young ones to train effectively. This he believed with the needed support for an indoor facility, the team can rival those in Accra in tennis games.

"We have no indoors facilities, as it stands now, we train outside, considering the factors affecting us if we are able to get indoor table tennis facilities, we can do better, we call on sports stakeholders and interest groups to come on board and help us"

Elvis Mantey, a pharmacist and the patron for the Ho Table Tennis club expressed his joy for the performance of the boys, this he said when the needed attention is given to the sport in Ho and Volta Region at large, the sport in the region will thrive. The patron also called for other stakeholders to come on board and develop Table Tennis in the regional capital as a measure of increasing sports development in the region.

"With the performance displayed by the boys in Denu is enough evidence to say when given the needed support, they will do better. I'm appealing to all stakeholders to come on board and make Volta region the hub of table tennis and above all, I'm very happy for the feat they chalk in Denu"

Despite a short notice, the general members of the Ho table tennis club with their effort ensured their journey to Denu came to fruition, DEK Pharmacy also played a major role by supporting the team.

This year, the table tennis championship was organised by Vilcabamba, held at the Three Town Senior High School in Denu.
