History was made yesterday December 18 at the Ho Sports Stadium Basketball Court when Denu Coasters emerged as champions of the maiden edition of Adonai Osagyefo Basketball Championship.
The first game of the day, Buem Warriors from Jasikan got defeated by ho based team, Wolves in a close contest of 40-42 scoreline.
Game two which saw a rather mesmerizing results got Akpini Snippers from Kpando making it rain on Mawuvi Basketball fellowship from Hohoe in a 47-16 scoreline. Mawuvi Basketball fellowship were often seen getting stuffed as they were denied slamming the ball in the basket by Akpini Snippers.
It was Denu Coasters who showed their mettle in the quarter final game as they wrestled against Chiefs Basketball Academy from Kumasi. Chiefs BA kept pushing with dropping dimes in an attempt to have three pointers, but the opponents were equally to the task as it became a block city for Denu Coasters who at the end of the 4th quarter, won by 46 points with Chiefs Basketball Academy summing up their total score to be 30.
It was a fierce contest between Aftown Flames and Akpini Snippers in the semi final bout. The match touted as final before final saw both teams wiggling to get more points as the game travelled to an overtime after both teams had equal points of 29.
Akpini Snippers with their swift transition made granny shots as Aftown flames were often taking the ball to the rack to gunner more points. Aftown Flames won on 35-33 points to book the final berth with their fellows, Denu Coasters who earlier swept off Wolves 39 - 31in the semi final to qualify to the grand finale.
Denu Coasters took with ease by beating their counterparts, Aftown Flames 29 - 22. The Coasters displayed great performance to put Aftown Flames on skates, amassing more points in the process. Denu Coasters got a dagger in the dying embers of the game to send the crowd cheering and finally quenching the flames. Aftown Flames look more disappointed when often their attacks becomes wedgie resulting to a miss.
Basketball loving fans went agog after the final whistle to bring the game to an end. The Coasters after the contest were crowned champions of the Adonai Osagyefo Basketball championship with a cash prize of GH¢2,000.00 and gold medals as Aftown Flames got consoled with GH¢1,000.00 with silver medals. Akpini Snippers who became third on the day also received GH¢500.00 cash and bronze medals.
