CAF to use VAR at 2021 AFCON next year

CAF has announced the usage of Video Assistant Referee in the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon next year

CAF has confirmed the use Video Assistant Referee in the up coming 2021 AFCON to be staged in Cameroon early next year.

The introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was first used in the CAF Champions League final between Al-Ahly and Espérance de Tunis in 2018, subsequent ones came in the quarterfinals stage of the CHAN 2020, but the AFCON tournament becomes the first of its kind where the electronic gadget will be used in assisting referees in decision making.

VAR is used in all European football tournaments. Its decision making has mostly ended up having divided opinions on team coaches, managers and lovers of the game about its decision in games.

The African most prestigious tournament will start in January 9 spanning through to February 6 2022.
