Old Gees 'dunk' to lift maiden Basketball Championship

 

Old Gees crowned champions of maiden Easter Monday Basketbal Championship


Ho Nurses Training College basketball court was the centre of attraction on a Easter Monday such as yesterday the 5th of April 2021.




Four teams, Old Gees, New School, Wolves and KBA contested in the Easter Monday Basketbal Championship, an event organized by Kyekyeku Basketball Academy and Swiss FM saw Old Gees winning the trophy after a keenly grand finale contest between New School.


Prior to the grand finale, Wolves who lost to New School (33-55) in the semi final secured the third spot by beating Kyekyeku Basketball Academy (36-41) in the third and fourth play off.




Old Gees who went home with the trophy gave a good account of themselves having fought back to lift the trophy in a closely contested final with the result going in favour of Old Gees who acrued 45 points against New School's 44 with only a point separating the two sides.



Fans gathered to witness the event went home fulfilled after a thrilling performance from the four teams who participated in the maiden Basketball Championship. 




Former Ghana national Basketball team coach, Emmanuel Essel Wobil  popularly known as Coach Ghana could not hide his admiration for the players after shown excellent performance on the day, this he believe there are talents in the region that can compete on national stages. He also urged the players to work hard as they are closed to achieving their glory.




" I am highly impressed with the performance you have shown today, I love everything that happened here, I can say without a doubt that, you guys are with aboundance of talents, and can as well compete when given a national stage, I encourage you to work hard because you are close to achieving your aim of playing basketball."




Meanwhile, there is a basketball coaching clinic for all young and aspiring basketball lovers who want to become coaches of the sport at the Ho Nurses Training Basketball Court. This program according to the C.E.O of Kyekyeku Basketball Academy will give the up and coming coaches the opportunity to learn new things associated with the game of Basketball.




"This clinic will give the needed opportunity for all Basketball lovers who want to become coaches to learn new things of the game, I am hoping what is learnt during the coaching clinic will help these young coaches to impact knowledge onto the very team they coach"




Easter Monday Basketball Championship will come again next year with lots of thrilling performance from Basketball players.
