Kyekyeku Basketball Academy with Swiss FM to organise basketball championship at the Ho Nurses Training College basketball court on Easter Monday |
Kyekyeku Basketball Academy in partnership with Swiss FM will on Easter Monday, April 5 organise the maiden Basketball Championship in the capital.
The championship dubbed Easter Monday Basketbal Championship which is the first ever Basketball competition to be witnessed in Ho is scheduled to be played between four teams beginning from the Semi Final stage with the winner in each game qualifying to the Grande Finale.
The teams, Old Gees, New School, Wolves and Kyekyeku Basketball Academy known as KBA will rock shoulders to emerge as winners to lift the ultimate trophy.
The event is part of Kyekyeku Basketball Academy plans to ensure, every Easter Mondays, such games are held to create awareness and raise the interest of basketball as a sport within the people largely in the municipality.
Explaining the reasons behind the one day competition, Oppong Kyekyeku who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Kyekyeku Basketball Academy said the championship will help engage all stakeholders of basketball to come on board and ensure the sport gains recognition. He further said, the competition will also become a household name in the region and the country as a whole since it will be an annual event.
"Kyekyeku Basketball Academy aim is to ensure all stakeholders of basketball come together and create awareness of the game, basketball is a sport that has a global recognition, in our part of the world as in Ho, we have had little to talk about when it comes to basketball."
"This is why we are partnering Swiss FM to come up with this event that will go on to become a household competition played on every Easter Monday to create the necessary awareness in the minds of people."
The competition will be held at the Ho Nurses Training College basketball court between 8:30am to 5:30pm.
There was a live draw to pair the competing teams on Friday's edition of Swiss Sports Classic. The draw pairings will see a first game between Old Gees locking horns with KBA whilest New School up against Wolves which becomes the second game in the first round of contest.
