Volta/Oti took its turn in 5th Betway Sports Writers Conference

 

Members of SWAG-Volta/Oti paying attention to a lecture at the 5th Sports Writers Conference which took place in Ho, Volta Region


The National Executives of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana in partnership with Betway, Ghana's leading online betting portal were in Volta Region to hold the 5th Betway Sports Writers Conference at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho.


The Conference which is aimed at improving journalists in all aspects of journalism, ensuring the Code of Ethics in the field of journalism are adhered, saw senior and renowned journalists such as Kwabena Yeboah, SWAG President, Maurice Quansah, SWAG Vice President, Charles Osei Asibey SWAG General Secretary and Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, a renowned Marketing Consultant expert who took turns to lecture members of the association on topical issues like The Highs and Lows of Journalism, Ethics of Sports Journalism and Building Sports Brands respectively. 




President of SWAG, in his presentation, spoke about the Highs and Lows of Journalism. He tells his story how he would  have become a lawyer but opted to be journalist.



Stressing on perseverance, the multiple award winning journalist shared his humble beginning as a journalist, working for the Print Media in the 80s before moving to the Electronic Media.



Mr. Kwabena Yeboah  urged the Journalists to always learn on the job and know all the rules of sports journalism. This he believe can be achieved through continous education.


"It is important to educate yourself to know what you talk about"



"It is good to learn on the job, it is good to know all the rules of sports journalism, that way, you are able to give factual reportage as a journalist."


 Advising members of the association not to relent as journalists by thinking there is nothing to learn, said:



"We have not reached this level by luck, it's grace, hardwork and perseverance, it is important to understand we are not yet a finished products as Journalists" he concluded.


Maurice Quansah, a senior journalist and the Vice  President of SWAG  spoke on Ethics of Sports Journalism, Mr. Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, a  former Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak and a marketing expert also touched on Building Sports Brands as sports journalists.
