Empty stadium shied Kotoko and Hearts from scoring in crunch super clash fixture


Kotoko and Hearts played in a goalles draw game 

Penalty miss took center stage in Kotoko and Hearts super clash game yesterday at the Accra Sports Stadium in match day 16 of the Ghana Premier League.

Both Kotoko and Hearts got the opportunity to put the ball in the net as Ref Selorm Yao Bless awarded a penalty to both teams.

It was Kwame Opoku who first gifted the chance to take the lead for the Porcupine Warriors in the early stages of the game after a penalty awarded, but Hearts shoot stopper, Richard Arthur was at the right position to grab the penalty denying a goal in the first half.

After recess, Hearts continued to rue chances they created in the game. Obeng Junior failed to score after Christopher Nettey mistakenly left the ball for the forward which was eventually parried away by Abalora.

Isaac Mensah of Hearts stood up to take the penalty that could have saw the Phobians ended the game with a goal at hand, Razak Abaloraa proving why he was called to the Black Stars stepped up to save Kotoko as penalty by Isaac Mensah was missed to send the game to a goalles draw.

Both teams played in an empty stadium due to the covid-19 protocols as a measure to fight the pandemic. 

Speaking with some fans after the game, some believed it was because of the absence of supporters in the stadium that saw both teams not scoring since the motivation level was low on the day, others had a different opinion, saying the teams lacked the quality of play there by not unable to turn their chances into good use.

" I will say, for the first time Hearts and Kotoko played in an empty stadium like this was a factor, that was why we saw a goalles game - Mireku from Kasoa"

" I don't believe so, I think our players in the local league now lacks the quality to play good football, they are not able to even score from the chances they get because, our boys are not having a good quality of play - Amos from Asamankese"
