Kwasi Appiah wants Akonnor to Adopt Brazil's Strategy of Appointing Captains in Black Stars

Former Ghana coach James Kwasi Appiah has urged Black Stars head coach, C.K Akonnor to take a decision of having the team's captainship rotated to avoid controversies in the future.

The Black Stars captainship is held by Andre Ayew who took over from Asamoah Gyan in a controversial manner last year ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Kwasi speaking to Happy FM, has suggested to C.K Akonnor to adopt Brazil's manner of appointing captains to lead the team.

“Looking at our current situation, I will propose we rotate the captain’s armband and also a general captain appointed to speak on behalf of the players. Brazil and other countries have made it work, so we can also emulate them"

"We should be careful or else this captaincy row can affect the national team for years to come."

Black Stars suffered from the captianship controversy as Gyan, was stripped off the armband by then Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah.

Gyan did not take the decision lightly as he announced his retirement from international duties. It was by the intervention of President Nana Akufo-Addo that saw the leading striker for the Black Stars returned to the national team.

Asamoah Gyan was called up in Appiah's 23 man squad for the African biggest tournament flagship, the Afcon after accepting to rescind his decision.

However, Baby Jet was reduced to the bench at the tournament amid speculation of bad blood with the then coach James Akwasi Appiah due to the captaincy issue as Ghana was knocked out in the round of 16 stage.
